I confronted myself in 2020. Isolated by the pandemic, I was forced to contend with the ugliest parts of my soul. Some days it seemed like the darkness would win, but as the war raged on I began to realize the truth behind my inner turmoil. I was conflicted not because of the hardships I bared, but because of my refusal to accept them as a part of myself. This insight allowed for a sort of rebirth as I emerged from 2020 a stronger, more confident version of myself.

Influenced by my struggles throughout the pandemic, this album is named after the lotus flower (scientifically dubbed N. nucifera). A lasting symbol of rebirth in many cultures, the lotus flower begins life submerged in the deep muddy soil of ponds and rivers. Despite
originating in such a murky, seemingly impossible place, the lotus reaches out towards the sun with its giant stalks of leaves and emerges from the water to produce brilliantly gorgeous flowers.
